Dangerous Judges Who Protect Criminals Instead of Victims Must be Exposed and Shamed

  |   By Liz Peek

Recidivism is out of control in our country. Heinous crimes are perpetrated daily by criminals who have been arrested not once or twice, but often dozens of times, released by judges who live privileged, safe lives and who are guided by some utopian notion of “fairness” or “equity”.

Bolstered by Democrat-passed laws that “raise the age” or seek “social justice” or otherwise protect dangerous people in our society, judges set criminals free with impunity, never mind the consequences. Judges for whom there is no accountability for the terrible consequences of their bad decisions.

I say: Enough! It is time that people across our country, on behalf of the victims, strike back. How? By publicizing the names and faces of the judges who act with carelessness and who are lauded by the Left even as they constitute a serious threat to the ordinary law-abiding citizens of our country.

An excellent example is Teresa Molina-Gonzalez, a judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois, who is responsible for releasing Lawrence Reed, a serial offender who had been arrested more than 70 times. Reed, already accused of a crime of arson, recently poured gasoline on an innocent woman and set fire to her on a Chicago train. As I write, she is in critical condition, fighting for her life. With luck she will pull through but chances are her scars will forever haunt her and her life will never be the same. She will endlessly be looking over her shoulder, scared to death there will be another attacker.

Molina-Gonzalez said, as she set Reed free, “I can’t keep everybody in jail because the State’s Attorney wants me to.” That was her response to the prosector when he objected to her releasing Reed after his latest conviction.

Lawrence Reed, who allegedly lit a woman ablaze on a train in Chicago on Wednesday, was released by a judge in August in a separate battery case.

It isn’t fair. Nor was it fair when Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, slit the throat of a young Ukrainian refugee on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina. Brown had an extensive criminal history that included convictions for armed robbery and breaking and entering. His victim was an enthusiastic transplant from her war-torn country who was learning to speak English, worked at a pizzeria and was described by her family as a “gifted and passionate artist.” Brown had served prison time and had been arrested in recent months for communicating threats.

In January, North Carolina Magistrate Judge Teresa Stokes granted the release of Brown, based upon a “written promise” that he would return for his court hearing, CBS reported, based on court records included here.

My view? Stokes has blood on her hands.

These are but two examples of judges putting the wellbeing of criminals above those of innocent civilians. There’s also Judge Marva Brown in New York, notable for freeing Markeese Brazelis after he had been charged with groping a woman on the subway. Brazelis soon thereafter allegedly shoved a complete stranger into the path of a speeding subway train. The same judge also ignored prosecutors’ cash bail request for Amira Hunter, who was caught on camera clobbering a subway cellist over the head with a metal water bottle.  In addition, this reckless judge, who has served fewer than tthree years on the bench, also declined prosecutors’ request for cash bail in the case of nunchuck-wielding Bryant Kenyatta, who is accused of breaking a victim’s arm in yet another unprovoked Midtown attack. In spite of Kenyatta having 12 prior arrests, Brown let the violent thug out last April on supervised release.

These judges, and many more, do not deserve to be on the bench. In most cases there is not much the public can do. Except…expose them, shame them and perhaps drive officials to throw them off the bench or demand they retire.

Mostly these judges were appointed by Democrats. Magistrate Stokes, an appointee, can and should be removed by higher-ups for her bad judgment and misconduct. Some, like Brown, were elected; Brown was a legal aid attorney and ran on the Working Party (Far Left) line. Her soft-on-crime posture was totally predictable.

The role of ideologically bent judges in making our cities unsafe has gone mostly unremarked; it is time to call them out. The best approach is to keep their faces prominently displayed on social media sites and publicize their dangerous decisions.

I will do my part; I hope anyone who reads this will do the same.
