Drew Feltwell, who attended the game with his family, described the moment as a disappointing escalation that overshadowed what should have been a celebratory highlight. The ball, hit by Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader, sparked a scramble among fans in the left-field seats. Feltwell maintained that he was the first to secure it after it bounced into an unoccupied seat, before passing it to his son, Lincoln, as an early birthday surprise.
According to Feltwell, the situation quickly turned confrontational when a gray-haired woman, also a Phillies supporter seated nearby, approached him aggressively. “I didn’t even see her walk up and as she reached for my arm, she just yelled in my ear, ‘That’s my ball!’ like super loud,” Feltwell recounted in an interview with NBC10 Philadelphia.
She insisted the ball had landed in one of her seats and accused him of taking it unlawfully, despite Feltwell’s assertion that “there was nobody in that seat.”
The woman persisted, yelling and leaning into Feltwell’s space, creating an uncomfortable scene witnessed by surrounding spectators. “That was what we were there for. We were there to get a home run ball. I thought I had accomplished this great thing and putting [it] in his glove meant a lot and she was just so adamant and loud and yelling and persistent and I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore,” Feltwell said.
To avoid further conflict, he handed over the ball, later explaining, “I pretty much just wanted her to go away.”
Lincoln, Feltwell’s son, expressed his own disappointment over the outcome. “I wasn’t very happy that we had to give it to her, but we can’t win,” the young fan said.
The exchange drew immediate backlash from nearby fans, who booed the woman and her male companion. The pair eventually left the area, with the man walking away first and the woman following.
