Four former senior aides from President Joe Biden’s administration have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee as part of its ongoing investigation into Biden’s health and mental acuity during his time in office, according to a committee aide, reports POLITICO.
The move follows a series of actions by Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), who launched the inquiry in May, citing growing concerns in Washington over Biden’s cognitive condition and the extent of his involvement in decision-making during his presidency. The investigation has intensified in recent weeks, culminating in a subpoena issued to Biden’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, compelling him to testify on June 27 after he declined a prior invitation.
Despite Biden’s withdrawal from the public eye in recent months, congressional Republicans have remained focused on the former president’s health. The Senate is also expected to hold a hearing on the matter next week.
The four aides—Neera Tanden, Anthony Bernal, Ashley Williams, and Annie Tomasini—are set to provide closed-door, transcribed interviews with the committee, an Oversight Committee aide told National Review. Each played a prominent role within the Biden White House and received formal interview requests last month.
The committee is also seeking testimony from additional former senior officials, including Michael Donilon, Anita Dunn, Bruce Reed, and Steve Ricchetti—all of whom held key advisory or operational roles during the Biden presidency.
The probe is part of a broader GOP-led effort to determine whether Biden’s aides were stepping in to make critical policy decisions in his place, potentially concealing the extent of his health challenges.
In response to mounting speculation and investigations, Biden has publicly defended his tenure, asserting that he remained firmly in control of his administration’s decisions.
