From Party Hack to “Independent”: Karine Jean-Pierre’s Delusional Exit

The knives are out for Karine Jean-Pierre. The former flack for Joe Biden, deemed by nearly everyone on the right as the worst press secretary of all time, has announced with great fanfare she is writing a “tell-all” book about the Biden White House and – surprise!!- also leaving the Democratic Party.

She is becoming an Independent, she says, with her publisher announcing that she will define “what it means to be part of the growing percentage of our fractured electorate that is Independent, why it can be worthwhile to carve a political space more loyal to personal beliefs than a party affiliation, and what questions you need to ask yourself to determine where you fit in politically.”

It is all so deliciously pretentious and self-important. Jean-Pierre did “not come to her decision to be an Independent lightly”, Hachette informs us. That’s reassuring, because she has just burnt nearly every bridge she has ever crossed, which appears a stupid move. Poor Karine; Democrats now despise her, despite her tenure of loyally schilling for an incompetent president.

What is most delightful is that Jean-Pierre is not abandoning the Democratic Party because its leaders lied about Joe Biden’s mental capacity, or because their policies led to 9% inflation and a broken border, or because they completely flopped in the last election, handing the government over to their arch-enemy Donald Trump.

No, Jean-Pierre is saying sayonara to the party that gave her prominence because Democrats were unkind to Joe Biden. In her book, she “takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal of the Democratic Paty that led to his decision.”

Betrayal? Does she think, as apparently Joe Biden still does, that he could have beaten Trump? Is she that blinded by the nonsense she spewed at the podium every day? After the debate, and after Biden had dropped out of the race, his press secretary claimed he was still sharp as a tack and “absolutely” could serve another four-year term. She further claimed that the president’s decision to step aside had “noting to do with his health.”

That’s the kind of dishonesty that marked Jean-Pierre’s two-plus years at the podium. If I were a Democrat I’d be relieved she’s no longer batting for my team.
