Remember how Democrats warned that President Trump would seek “vengeance” and “retribution” if he were elected? Doesn’t that sound like an admission of guilt? That they’ve been up to no good? Otherwise, what are they worried about?
Some of us would suggest instead that the White House is after accountability – hoping that Democrats finally pay a price for the misdeeds they’ve perpetrated over the past decade.
Russiagate, for instance, was not just a dirty trick – it was a concerted effort to interfere with an election and then became a disgraceful, prolonged attempt to undermine a duly elected president. It was not only damaging to President Trump, but also to the entire country, which was on the hook for the costly and pointless Mueller investigation and which became even more distrustful of our political leaders.
The author of that entire sordid episode was Hillary Clinton, whose campaign paid for Christopher Steele’s utterly fabricated and dishonest dossier accusing then-candidate Trump of nefarious activities confirming his ties to Russia.
It was total bunk, but the media seized on it like sharks. There has never been any serious penalty paid by Clinton for her involvement in this fraud, though she and her campaign effectively admitted they had indeed been behind the sinister disinformation campaign. In 2022, the AP reported: Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee have agreed to pay $113,000 to settle a Federal Election Commission investigation into whether they violated campaign finance law by misreporting spending on research that eventually became the infamous Steele dossier.”
Clinton has also never paid a price for other offenses, like lying about the Benghazi riots, or Travelgate or alleged corruption at her foundation. She is and has been the poster child for the two-tiered system of justice the U.S. experienced under both Presidents Obama and Biden.
I was reminded of this today because someone posted this on X:
“The FBI and the DOJ were ordered by Barack Obama not to arrest Hillary Clinton for espionage in violation of — 18 U.S. Code § 793. In fact, Barack Obama effectively served as Hillary Clinton’s personal lawyer. CIA John Ratcliffe: “Lisa Page [FBI lawyer] confirmed to me under oath that the FBI was ordered by the Obama DOJ not to consider charging Hillary Clinton for gross negligence in the handling of classified information.”
This revelation makes a liar of former FBI Director James Comey, who reassured the American people that his investigation into Clinton’s mishandling of classified information had been done “honestly, competently and independently. No outside influence was brought to bear.”
No outside influence but President Bill Clinton just happening to land on the tarmac next to AG Loretta Lynch and almost certainly sealing the deal not to charge his wife.
I have zero appetite for relitigating Hillary Clinton’s past misdeeds; her ultimate penalty and comeuppance was losing to Donald Trump, her worst nightmare. But I have lots of enthusiasm for reminding people that she is a dishonest, corrupt disgrace who should exit the stage and retire to Chappaqua with sleezy Bill. And by the way, she can stop talking about GOP women being “handmaidens”; if you’re relying on your husband for a “get out of jail free” card and standing by him through serial affairs, alleged rapes etc., you’re not exactly a shining example of independence.
