Fox News contributor Liz Peek joined Mornings with Maria to react to former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s warning that his own party is being pulled under by its socialist wing — and she agreed, arguing the movement’s defining thread is doing real damage to Democrats.
“The anti-Semitic, anti-Israel theme is certainly very, very prevalent — that does seem to be what all of these Democratic Socialists of America agree upon,” Peek said. “But it is absolutely driving a spike into the heart of the Democratic Party.”
Peek zeroed in on the Michigan Senate primary as a race to watch, noting Democrats need the state to have any shot at the Senate and that Republican Mike Rogers is “a pretty good candidate.” She also took aim at the United Auto Workers for endorsing a Democratic Socialist candidate, a move she wrote about because it made so little sense to her: the union, she argued, has tilted so far left that it now counts more higher-education staff than autoworkers — pointing to New York’s Claire Valdez, a UAW member who has “never set foot in an auto plant.”
Her bottom line: the socialist candidates energizing these primaries are unlikely to survive a general election. “I don’t think this guy can win,” she said.
