Hunter Biden has reportedly taken on a new role at a high-end rehabilitation center in Los Angeles, a move that could help him address mounting financial pressures tied to legal fees and other debts, the Washington Free Beacon reports. The Hollywood Hills-based facility, Peak Path Health, confirmed this week that Biden will serve as an adviser while also leading its charitable foundation.
The company framed the hire as a natural fit, pointing to Biden’s personal history with addiction and recovery. In its announcement, Peak Path highlighted his “lived experience and professional insight,” noting that he is marking seven years of sobriety. A Yale-trained attorney, Biden has increasingly leaned into a public-facing role as a recovery advocate, discussing his struggles with substance abuse across podcasts and social media while also engaging critics of his family.
Financially, the new position arrives at a critical moment. Biden has reportedly acknowledged owing roughly $17 million to legal teams that defended him in multiple criminal and civil cases. Court filings portray him as unable to meet those obligations, with attorneys describing him as lacking sufficient funds even to comply with discovery demands in ongoing litigation. One filing indicated he was living abroad and unable to respond to creditors, though he has been seen several times in recent months in California and Nashville, including an in-studio podcast appearance.
Details about his compensation at Peak Path remain unclear, as does whether the role requires in-person work or can be performed remotely. The company declined to comment on specifics, and Biden’s legal representatives have not elaborated. He has also said he holds a separate position in Southern California as director of development for BASTA Universal, a tenants’ rights organization that recently lost its nonprofit status, according to the Free Beacon.
Peak Path Health, launched in 2025, markets itself to affluent clients seeking treatment for addiction and mental health challenges. Its flagship property features amenities more commonly associated with luxury resorts, including spa services, fitness facilities, and expansive outdoor spaces with panoramic views stretching toward Catalina Island.
Biden’s connection to such facilities is longstanding. He has entered rehab multiple times over the past two decades, beginning in 2003 and again in 2010, and has described periods of sobriety followed by relapse. He was discharged from the Navy Reserve in 2014 after testing positive for cocaine. By his account, he has remained sober since 2019.
His personal and legal troubles have remained in the spotlight. In 2024, Biden was convicted on federal charges related to firearm possession and later pleaded guilty to tax offenses tied to millions in unpaid income. Prosecutors argued the funds were spent on drugs, escorts, and a lavish lifestyle. He faced the possibility of prison time before receiving a presidential pardon from his father later that year.
