CBS Anchor Attempts to Get Medal of Honor Recipients to Criticize the Nation – What They Said Instead Shows True American Spirit

Leave it to the mainstream media to use Memorial Day weekend as another opportunity to attack America. CBS News host Margaret Brennan thought she could corner two Medal of Honor recipients into joining her doom-and-gloom narrative about our nation, but these American heroes weren’t having any of it. According to Townhall, Brennan’s attempt to bait William Swenson and Matthew Miller into bashing America backfired spectacularly when these warriors delivered a masterclass in patriotism instead.

Brennan’s setup was as predictable as it was insulting. She told the Medal of Honor winners that the country “can feel dark these days” and pressed them to find something positive despite all that supposed “darkness.” But these men didn’t take the bait. Instead, they reminded every American watching exactly why this nation remains the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known.

Swenson delivered a truth bomb that should be required viewing in every newsroom: “No other place in history, time or on this planet have ever gotten to where we are today. We need to be proud of that.” He emphasized that America isn’t defined by the political circus in Washington or the negative media narratives. Real America is about children being born, dreams being achieved, and the endless pursuit of a more perfect union. That’s the America these heroes fought for.

Miller doubled down with an even more powerful message about American opportunity and freedom. He challenged viewers to visit the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, and actually celebrate our incredible history instead of just going through the motions. His words cut through the media pessimism like a knife: when you’re grateful for the opportunities this country provides, “I don’t see how you can’t be optimistic about our future.”

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we need more voices like Swenson and Miller cutting through the mainstream media’s relentless negativity. These men risked everything for our freedom, and they’re not about to let television hosts diminish the greatest nation on earth. Their message is clear: America’s best days aren’t behind us, they’re ahead of us, and it’s time to start acting like we believe it.
