Democrat Insider Urges Party to ‘Pray’ For a ‘Depression’

Some Democratic strategists, alarmed by their party’s declining popularity, have reportedly become so desperate that they are hoping for a significant economic downturn to help reverse their fortunes. Fox News reports, several Democratic insiders reflected on the party’s current struggles following President Donald Trump’s 2024 election win, according to a report from The Hill. One anonymous strategist described the situation as a “nightmare scenario” and bluntly stated, “We better pray long and hard that the country is going to be in a f—ing depression, because I don’t know how else we find ourselves out of this mess.”

The report highlights that the Democratic Party is facing historically low approval ratings and is still searching for a national leader nearly six months after Trump’s return to the White House. Recent polling from the Democratic super PAC Unite the Country, conducted between May and June, found that the party has lost ground since the November election. Many respondents described the Democratic Party as “out of touch,” “weak,” and “woke.”

Rodell Mollineau, a senior adviser to Unite the Country, acknowledged the difficulty of messaging in the current climate, saying,”It’s hard to message when you’re in the wilderness, which is what we are right now. When voters don’t think that you care about their issues, and they don’t think that you’re going to fight for them, that becomes a problem.”

Strategist Brad Bannon echoed these concerns, noting that Democrats remain as unpopular as they were when Trump was inaugurated in January. However, Bannon expressed hope that missteps by the Trump administration that he says include Medicaid cuts and high tariffs, could provide Democrats with an opportunity to regain support.

Other prominent voices have criticized the party’s post-election strategy. Businessman Mark Cuban, speaking on the “Pod Save America” podcast, argued that Democrats are overly focused on opposing Trump rather than addressing the needs of Americans. Former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel also lamented the party’s unpopularity, stating, “The Democratic Party is less popular than Elon Musk right now. That should be like a wake-up call – how bad.”
