President Chooses reelection Campaign Over Country

President Obama is playing fast and loose with the economy, and the country. Last night the bipartisan leadership of Congress took the president a plan that extended the debt ceiling on a short-term basis and cut some government spending, only to be shown the door. After alarming the American people about the horrifying destruction to our capital markets and economy sure to stem from a default, and about the dire need to avert such a catastrophe, President Obama decided that having to deal once again with this issue during his reelection campaign was unacceptable. This cynical rejection of the plan from Mssrs. Reid, Boehner and McConnell show all too clearly the president’s true colors – and his manipulation of the public’s trust on this debt issue. Whether the GOP will be able to present their plan on the mainstream media remains to be seen.
The fact that his reelection campaign has publicized today that certain fund-raisers have been canceled is a poorly-disguised effort to show the public that Mr. Obama is putting the country first. Their message: the president cares SO much about shepherding a deal through Congress that he is even willing to forego some campaign events. That sacrifice on the part of the president would be laudable except that during the past several weeks, as the talks have haltingly progressed, Mr. Obama has engaged in numerous fund-raisers, which now appear to have been expunged from the White House daily schedule.
